In yet another blow to the self-financing medical colleges in the state the Kerala High Court Thursday directed them to oust the students who were granted admission to MBBS course without the stipulated 50 per cent marks in the Plus Two examination.
The verdict came in writ petition complaining about irregularities in the admission procedure filed by a group of students.
The verdict will affect 88 students in four medical colleges under the Christian management and one belonging the Muslim Education Society (MES).
The Inter-Church Medical College Management Council said they would approach the Supreme Court against the order.
The MCI in an affidavit before the court had said that only those students who had obtained 50 per cent marks in physics, chemistry and biology in the Plus Two course and also 50 per cent marks in the common entrance test could be admitted to the MBBS course.
The Supreme Court had recently upheld the High Court?s order asking 11 private self-financing medical colleges to admit students from the CEE list. The SC also observed that the self financing education sector was engaging in undiluted commerce and that the admissions to the colleges were not transparent.
