Kerala Private Self-financing Engineering College Management Association today reached an understanding with the State Education Minister M.A.Baby on admitting students who had not passed the entrance tests, to their ?lapsed seats.?
The ?lapsed seats? are the merit seats in the private self-financing colleges that remain vacant even after August 14, the cut-off date for the central allotment by the Commissioner of Entrance Examination (CEE) to the private self-financing engg colleges. According to the agreement between the engineering managements and the government, after August 14 the managements can admit students to these ?lapsed seats? on their own.
However with the CEE entering the third allotment process, the private self financing engineering colleges have found themselves in a piquant situation, unable to get enough candidates to fill their lapsed seats from the entrance commissioner?s list. This mainly includes the newly sanctioned 23 colleges which are mainly located in the rural parts of the state.
