The Anand Agriculture University (AAU) has applied for patents for indigenously developed technologies, which include bio-diesel processing plant, date-palm tissue culture and curd culture.
"At AAU, our scientists are conducting research on a number of things which could help the farmers get better yield for their crops," Vice-Chancellor M C Varshaney said today.
"A number of technologies indigenously developed at AAU are under process of getting patents. This includes the bio-diesel processing plant," Varshaney added here.
The processing technology allows extraction of bio- fuel from jatropha seeds faster and with minimum impurity, he said.
"The processing plant is automatic where on one side you put the jatropha seeds which will be de-hurled, the kernel extracted will be crushed and its oil will be extracted, refined and other chemicals added, and finally what comes out is bio-fuel ready-to-use."
Varshaney said his team has developed a date-palm plant variety using tissue culture which bears fruit that is very sweet in taste and is less fibrous.
"The date-palm plant developed by us will be available for farmer for Rs 1,000 per plant, while those imported are priced at Rs 3,000 per plant."
