The Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) in Bangalore on Friday announced its decision to open its portals to undergraduate students in 2011. The classes for the inaugural batch of 110 undergraduate students will begin on August 1, 2011, according to a posting on its website. The four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) programme is designed as a balanced blend of core science and interdisciplinary topics, to serve as a launching pad for research and doctoral studies .
The students will have to appear for competitive national-level entrance examinations such as Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana, IIT-JEE, AIEEE and AIPMT. Students who have cleared 12th standard or equivalent, with physics, chemistry, and mathematics as main subjects are eligible, and applications will be accepted between January 1 and March 31, 2011. The course, with its inclusion of Humanities courses such as history and philosophy, is modelled in part after the one offered at California Institute of Technology.
