Apart from guarding the borders and combating militancy, the army in Jammu and Kashmir is also active in the sphere of education, constructing schools and running institutions.
A defence spokesman said the army has constructed 30 schools and renovated 834 schools by providing labs, computers and improving infrastructure and sports facilities and helping poor students get quality education in remote areas in the valley.
He said children studying in Army Goodwill Schools enter a diverse range of careers, including engineering and civil services.
On academic results of the schools, he said 2008-2009 Standard X and Standard XII CBSE results have been good for students in the Army Schools.
Out of the 289 children who appeared for the Class X CBSE exams in 2008-2009, 263 passed with distinction and first and second division and many excelled in their chosen subjects, he said.
