The Union Government is considering the creation of Indian Education Service (IES) and has constituted a sub-group which will submit a report within three months on its possibility and desirability, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.
Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal told the House during the Question Hour that the Government had constituted the sub-group consisting of four members recently to explore the possibility and desirability of the constitution of IES.
Although the National Education policy 1986 which was modified in 1992, provides for establishment of an Indian Education service as an all India service, there was no consensus among the state governments and it could not be established, he added.
