All the 17 Deemed Universities in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, which were among the 44 institutions in India facing threat of de-recognition, would be impleading themselves in the case pending before the Supreme Court.
''Definitely, this was one of the issues that came up for discussion during the three-hour long meeting of Heads of the 17 Institutions,'' a top official of a university, who attended the meeting, told UNI, requesting anonymity.
The modalities were being worked out on how to go about the issue in the wake of Union Government filing an affidavit seeking to strip the deemed varsity status to the 44 institutitions in India based on the Tandon Committee's report alone.
''We might go as a forum to implead ourselves in the case before the apex court,'' the official said.
''Definitely,'' he said when asked whether the universities would implead themselves in the case in the context of Vel's University, which was among the shortlisted, stating it would do so.
''Since the matter is pending before the Supreme Court, all necessary legal steps will be taken to present our case and seek time to rectify our mistakes,'' he added.
