Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) is keen on funding
research projects by Tirupati-based Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical
Sciences (SVIMS) and Sri Venkateswara University. A broad consensus
to this effect was reached when a high-level team of scientists from the
DRDO visited the super specialty hospital and the ?A' grade university here
last week.
The team was led by the Chief Controller (R&D) W. Selvamurthy and
comprised of Directors R.B. Srivastava (Life sciences), R.N.Tripathi
(INMAS), R.Muralidharan (SSPL), G.Ilavazhagan (DIPAS), Shashi Bala
Singh (DIHAR), Additional Director (DLS) V.R. Biswas, ?F' Scientists
P.V.L.Rao from DRDE (Gwalior) and Neelam Malhan from LASTEC.
During an interaction with the SVIMS academics from anaesthesiology,
biochemistry, cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, medicine,
nephrology, neurosurgery, nuclear medicine, oncology, pathology, plastic
surgery, radiotherapy, urology among others, Dr. Selvamurthy said that
the DRDO's annual spending towards advanced research was to the tune
of Rs.900 crore and asked the departments to forward proposals to him.
The team later visited the various departments and lauded the impressive
infrastructure in place.
