The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has invited applications for the joint CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) to be held on December 19 for determining the eligibility for the award of junior research fellowship (JRF) and for appointment of lectures in science subjects in universities and colleges across the country.
A candidate may apply either for JRF and lectureship or for lectureship only. Two separate merit lists will be prepared for JRF and lectureship. The NET (JRF) qualifying candidates are eligible to receive scholarships or fellowships for their research studies leading to Ph.D.
The test will be held in the following subjects:
Chemical sciences: Earth, atmospheric, ocean and planetary sciences.
Life sciences
Mathematical sciences
Physical sciences.
Those who have passed M.Sc. degree in these subjects with at least 55 per cent marks are eligible to apply for the test. Final-year M.Sc. students can also apply for the test. The upper age limit for the JRF (NET) is 28 years. There is no upper age-limit for lectureship examination.
The test will be held in two sessions: paper I on December 19 from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. (150 minutes, 200 marks) and paper II on the same day from 2 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. (150 minutes, 200 marks).
Negative marking will be made for wrong answers in paper I, and paper II will be evaluated only for those who secure minimum marks prescribed for paper I.
Candidates are required to appear in both papers. Subject-wise syllabus for the test is given in the information bulletin which will be available along with application form or apply online through the website
www.csirhrdg.res.in between August 10 and August 30. Candidates applying online should deposit their examination fee through bank challan in any of the Indian Bank branches. The test will be held at various centres across the country including Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Nagpur, Delhi, Kolkata and the candidate may opt any of the centres.
How to apply
Application form and information bulletin can be obtained from select branches of Indian Bank and Oriental Bank of Commerce from August 10 on payment of the prescribed fee. In Kerala, the Indian Bank branches at Thiruvananthapuram (MG Road), Kottayam (MC Road) , Kochi (Vytilla), Thrissur, Kozhikode will distribute forms up to August 30.
The candidate will have the option to apply either through application form or apply online at
www.csirhrdg.res.in .
Those who are applying online has to send the hard copies of duly filled in online application to the examination unit, HRDG, CSIR.
Duly completed applications with all enclosures are to be sent to the Sr. Controller of Examinations, Examination Unit, HRDG, CSIR Complex, Library Avenue, Pusa, New Delhi ? 110012 before September 3, 5 p.m.

PG diploma course
The Kerala Institute of Tourism and Travel Studies (KITTS) has invited applications for admission to (one-year programme) postgraduate diploma in tourism and hospitality management course conducted at Thiruvananthapuram and Thalassery centres. Eligibility: A pass in any degree from a recognised university. The total course fee is Rs.30,000.
