The University Grants Commission has published the selected list of 149 colleges under the scheme of Colleges with Potential for Excellence. In Kerala altogether seven colleges have got this status out of which five are under Mahatma Gandhi University and one each under Kerala and Calicut universities.
The five colleges under MG University, Kottayam are St. Thomas College,Palai Arunapuram,Kottayam, Maharaja?s College,Ernakulam, St. Teresa?s College, Ernakulam, Marian College Kuttikkanam,Kuttikkanam P.O., Peermade Idukki and Mar Athanasius College, Kothamangalam College, Ernakulam.
The only college under Kerala university to get this status is Mahatma Gandhi College, Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram. St. Joseph?s College, Devagiri, Calicut is the lone college under Calicut University to be a College with Potential for Excellence , according to UGC.
Andhra University, Bangalore University, Mysore University, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University,The Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Utkal University,Guru Nanak Dev University, Punjab,Rajasthan University and Calcutta University are the other universities to have the maximum number of colleges ( five ) of Potential.
