The Newly established 'Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive
Policy' (CSSEIP) of SNDT Women's University has introduced three
professional courses for women from the next academic year beginning
June 2010.
The Master of Arts in Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy Studies is a
two year course while P G Diploma in Social Exclusion and Inclusive
Policy Studies is for one year, CSSEIP director Dr Chandrakant Puri said
today.
This is for the first time such professional courses are introduced by the
Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey women's university's centre
which is sponsored by the University Grants Commission and the fees for
the masters degree will be Rs 5000 per year while for the diploma, it
would be Rs 4000.
The Centre has also introduced PG Diploma in Non-Governmental
Organisation (NGO) Management, a one year course and the fees for
which will be Rs 4000, Puri told PTI.
The aim of these courses is to create a cadre of professional, scholars
and activists who will work in the area of social exclusion and inclusive
policies, Puri said adding that the course is academic in nature and has
both theoretical and practical components.
Field instruction is an integral component of these courses. Students will
be required to undertake an internship of one-month at the end of the
fourth semester in the MA course, he said.
The dissertation, envisaged as an action research project, is compulsory
at the MA level. The course is modular and credit based. The course is
inter-disciplinary in nature. Students are expected to gain special
expertise in the areas of study of social exclusion & inclusive policy
fulfilling their professional requirements. After completion of this course
they will be able to work in educational institutions, NGOs, government
sector and in the corporate social responsibility cells of the industry
sector.
CSSEIP will assist the successful students for getting placements, he
said.
After completion of the MA course, candidates will also be able to
undertake further research at the M. Phil. or Ph. D. levels, Puri added.
