The government today set up a committee to look into various aspects of school education and suggest ways on bringing it in sync with college education system. The committee was set up at a conference of vice-chancellors and school principals here today. It will study the present school education system and ways to bridge the gap between the school system and college education system, an HRD Ministry official said.
The conference discussed the expectation of university system, core curriculum, continuous and comprehensive education, among other issues.
HRD Minister Kapil Sibal inaugurated the conference and stressed on these issues. There was consensus on all issues. The meeting also discussed about a common entrance test for admission into university education.
The committee will submit its report before the next meeting to be held after three months, the official said.
Sibal has been stressing on reforms in school education system to make it students' centric, reduce stress and introduce vocational education at senior secondary stage with provision for transfer to the general university system.
