The one-year diploma programme held in association with Goodnews Channel recently held its fifth graduation day where around 30 students received their certificates.
The programme is among the many that film and television technology institutes are addressing to train interested aspirants to enter the growing industry.
According to reports, India leads the broadcast scenario with 464 channels and the scenario is raring to go.
Growing industry
The course was run as a certificate programme in the first year and was later introduced as a diploma programme. With the media revolution growing globally, the course is different as it is ?simple, practical and affordable?.
Students who have completed Class X or their graduation are admitted to the programme after an interview.
The curriculum is based on the syllabus of Geoffrey R. Conway School of Broadcasting, Canada, and is divided into three trimesters. Diploma in television programme and direction, diploma in television camera technology and diploma in television editing are the three specialisations being offered. ?Because of the demand and scope in editing, we have 80 per cent of class specialising in editing. A majority of them are placed in the industry too,? says Chitra Kannan, programme executive, RACE Loyola. Students also take up a group project in short film making in the third semester
