Application start not yet confirmed

The official GATE 2027 website operated by IIT Madras currently lists the registration start date as TBA and displays a message saying that online application registration will start soon.

Although a GOAPS portal link is visible, candidates should not treat third-party claims about the application opening as confirmed unless the application form is fully accessible through the official website.

Deadlines retained

The official schedule currently lists:

September 27, 2026: regular registration closes without a late fee
October 5, 2026: extended registration closes with a late fee
February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027: examination dates
March 19, 2027: result announcement

The website notes that dates are liable to change.

DigiLocker requirement

Registration through a verified DigiLocker account is mandatory for Indian nationals. Applicants should create or update their verified account before the application form opens.

The portal says that details including the candidate’s name, date of birth, mobile number, email address, profile picture, address and verified identity-card number will be fetched through DigiLocker.

Applicants will also need academic details, examination-paper choices, city preferences, a photograph, signature, valid photo identification and applicable category or disability certificates.

Eligibility and fees

Candidates studying in the third or a higher year of an eligible undergraduate programme, or candidates who have completed an approved degree in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts or humanities, may apply subject to the detailed eligibility rules.

The regular-period fee per paper is ₹1,000 for female, SC, ST and PwD candidates and ₹2,000 for other candidates, including foreign nationals. The extended-period fees are ₹1,500 and ₹2,500 respectively. Candidates choosing two papers must pay twice the single-paper fee.

What students should do now

Create or update a verified DigiLocker account, prepare the required documents and monitor only the official GATE 2027 portal. Do not pay money through an unofficial registration link. Confirm that the official form is fully operational before submitting personal details.
